How to Use Coaching Assessments

How to Use Coaching Assessments

Online assessments can be an incredible asset to your coaching business when used effectively! From pre-screening potential clients to managing ongoing progress and expectations, assessments let you gather valuable information and simultaneously provide feedback and results. It’s like automation meets personalization – and we bet you and your clients will love them!

Finding new clients with Assessments

An online assessment can act as a free teaser of your expertise to engage new and potential clients. Some ways you could utilize this are to put an assessment link in your email signature, blog, or social media. This could be as simple as a link that’s calling out a question, for instance, “Are you in the right mindset for Summer?” if you’re a mindset-focus coach. The opportunities and topics are endless here, and the main goal is to get people to interact with you in some way right off the bat.

Coaching Topics for Assessments

Let’s look at some other potential topics, too. Are you a coach looking to help startups or small businesses get off the ground? You could offer a business assessment such as “How ready are you to launch your business?” that assesses where a client is and offers useful feedback and advice to help them. This feedback is extremely important, as it’s positioning you as an expert in that field, and offering potential solutions to clients before you’re technically even working with them. What better way to prove just how brilliant you are at what you do!

Assessments to Measure Progress

Another great way to use assessments as a coach is to measure ongoing progress. You could offer monthly or quarterly assessments to measure a client’s progress by having similar questions, and seeing how the results change over time. This is also a great way for you to tailor your coaching practice based on what may be working extremely well versus what may not. It’s a win-win for both you and your clients!

As you can see above, assessments can be used in a variety of ways to strengthen your coaching practice. Whether before, during, and after your interactions with a client, assessments provide valuable information and feedback to you both.

Using Online Assessments to Screen Clients

Using Online Assessments to Screen Clients

We’ve all been there: you start working with a new client, and you realize a little too late they may not be the best fit. It’s no one’s fault, but it can lead to some unnecessary stress down the line. What if you could avoid this stress, figure out which clients are ideal for your business, and gently steer away those that aren’t? Online assessments can help you do just that!

Assessments as a screening tool

An assessment can be a wonderful tool to help you screen for clients who either are or aren’t a great fit for your services. One way to do this is by offering a pre-assessment to your new clients. This will allow you to screen clients by carefully curating the questions and content of your assessment. You can ask about specifics related to working style, anticipated needs, etc, and really get a feel for how the working relationship will be between you and this person. Does it seem like a good fit? Great! Not so much? At least you know before you’ve started a relationship that it’s not the best fit for either of you.

Using Online Assessments to Screen Clients

An assessment tailored to your ideal client

As life coach, business coach or consultant, you probably have an idea of who your ideal clients are. In creating your assessment, map out how the replies to your questions would be answered by those ideal clients. These are the people you’d be thrilled to work with! Everyone screens prospective clients – whether by phone, email, or in person. Speed up the process and save yourself future headaches by screening via assessment early on.

How would I implement this?

Great question! Once you have your ideal client in mind, and their ideal assessment-taking profile, simply ask all new clients to take a pre-screen assessment before bringing them on. Ask questions that reflect things you feel are important as a business owner and person so you can start to gauge work ethic, communication style, and commitment level. If there is a certain level of knowledge in an area that you’d like all clients to have before working with you, this is a perfect opportunity to find out where people stand. Don’t be afraid to get creative and specific with your questions – this will ultimately benefit all parties involved in the long run.

So there you have it… a simple, automated way to screen clients before you even have your first call with them. Assessment Generator lets you streamline and personalize the process while safeguarding yourself and your business from potential time wasted down the line. How to Make Your Assessment Irresistible

How to Make Your Assessment Irresistible

No matter how great it is, an assessment can only be effective if people take it! Luckily, we’re here to give you some of the best tips and tricks for pulling people in and getting them to click. Are you trying to engage your current audience, or maybe you’d like to bring in a set number of new clients this month? A targeted assessment plan can help you reach your goals in a truly unique way.

Where do I share my assessment?

It’s extremely important to be conscious of where to put your assessment. Is it a pop-up on your homepage? Is it a link you share? There’s no right or wrong answer, but there are many different options based on what information you’re looking to collect with an assessment and who you’re hoping to reach. Let’s dive a little deeper into some scenarios below:

  • Homepage Popup: This tactic works well if you already have a solid customer base that frequently visits your website. This could also be a good option if you’re directing new clients to your website from some other channel. The important thing is, how do you make it so someone WANTS to click on your assessment vs. just closing out the window? One place to start is by thinking about what your current or potential customers want and need at the moment – and highlighting that in the pop-up. Have you been selling out of a current type of product or service lately? Maybe you’re getting a lot of questions or inquiries about something specific (or heck, maybe YOU want to try something new and specific as an offering!) Highlight that in your pop-up and see what happens. Being specific and direct in your messaging will draw in the people who want what you’re selling.
  • Email Signature: If you have a strong email list and want the people to take a certain assessment… bingo, this could be a great option! Assessment links can be included in your email signature, allowing you to personalize the hyperlink text. Like the pop-up scenario, aim for something you know your email base will be interested in knowing. Maybe you’re teasing a new coaching program- you could entice people to click through to take an assessment and see how it would benefit them firsthand.
  • Blog Post: Not to get too meta here, but blog posts are a great way to continue engaging with an (already interested) audience. If you could click through to take an assessment right now about what kind of assessment would work best for your business, wouldn’t you? If you’re someone who hasn’t created an assessment before, we’d hope so! Blog posts are a great way to reach current clients who see your shared content and new clients who may be finding you and your business via SEO or another channel.
  • Social Media: Social media channels like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook can provide a large reach for your assessments. If someone finds you on Facebook and wants to engage, how great would it be if your story was linked to an assessment? This lets you get more creative with your content while also allowing for a place to include your assessment link.

Other assessment-sharing strategies

If you’re feeling a bit stuck or frustrated with assessment engagement from your marketing and content, here are some other options to kickstart those clicks:

  • Partnering with a fellow business owner: Partnering in this way can be a great win-win scenario for you both. Check-in with some of your entrepreneur friends or network and see if anyone would be open to highlighting your work (and assessment) on their website, newsletter, social media, etc. If you’re unsure who to reach out to, think about who has clients that may also benefit from your offerings. A mutually beneficial partnership like this puts you in front of new yet already engaged people and is sure to bring in some extra clicks.
  • Webinars: Webinars are a great tool to showcase assessments, and you can guarantee an assessment will get taken if you include it as part of your webinar. You can share an assessment with attendees before, during, or after your webinar, and by building it into your webinar, it may seem less intimidating for respondents to take it. This tactic almost formalizes the assessment-taking process, adding it into your webinar curriculum as just another step in the process (though a crucial one!)
  • Be Creative: You know your strengths and goals. What do you want to get out of this assessment process? What are you excited about? What are your clients excited about? Use all of these things to your advantage, and create a strategy that you are excited about and think will work. Remember – you can always make changes along the way. Don’t be afraid to try new ways of engaging clients and getting their attention because that is what will get them excited to direct their attention to you… and your assessments!

Using Assessments with Webinars

Using Assessments with Webinars

Assessments are an incredible tool to use alongside webinars – but how do you use them effectively?  Have you ever wished you could engage your attendees even more before, during, or after your webinar? What if you could learn more about attendees before they even sign in to your webinar – and therefore be able to better understand their needs and target your content?

Assessments for pre-webinar engagement

So, you have a great webinar ready to go – awesome! Whether it’s your first webinar or you’re a webinar-leading pro, an assessment can be of use to you. If you’re going to send an assessment to attendees before a webinar, there are a few different questions you could ask, such as:

  • What do you hope to get from this webinar?
  • What drew you to this webinar?
  • Do you have any questions you’d like answered during this webinar?

Pre-webinar assessments let you learn more about your webinar attendees, and therefore be able to provide greater value to them during your webinar. You also can better plan out your content and timing during the webinar, focusing more on areas you now know your audience is hoping you’ll cover!

Using Assessments with Webinars

Use Assessments during a webinar

Similar to a quick survey or pop-up quiz, assessments can be used during a webinar as well. This scenario lets you engage your audience a step further by having them actively participate in something during the webinar. You can then choose what kind of assessment you will offer, and how you’ll use the results (if at all) during the webinar. If you are having trouble getting potential or current clients to take assessments, this can be a great way to tag-team the process by including them in your webinar script. Simply put a link in a chat and give attendees time to fill out a few questions. Then, you’ll be able to provide instant feedback from your assessment’s results even while you’re presenting on-screen. You can also use this to better follow up individually with attendees after the webinar, which leads us to the next point…

Assessments turn attendees into clients

How many times have you completed a webinar with a group of excited attendees, but then you struggle to keep up that engagement and excitement? Maybe you’re unsure exactly how to reach out to them all individually –and in a more personalized way– to follow up. Or, maybe you’re not sure what exact part of the webinar may have caught their attention. An assessment gives you a new tool to gauge their interest, while also providing valuable feedback. You could follow up and expand upon results from an assessment they took during the webinar, or send a separate follow-up assessment to gain more insight into their thoughts and interest level post-webinar. Either way, you are keeping people engaged with you and your brand, and providing them valuable feedback and proof of your expertise.

It’s this level of engagement, data, and feedback that make assessments so valuable at turning potential clients into paying clients. You get to show off what makes YOU special. Once you’ve created an assessment, let it do the heavy lifting and seamlessly complement your webinar. It’s a great way to combine marketing and sales channels to give yourself the ultimate chance of success!

After Your First (or 50th) Assessment

After Your First (or 50th) Assessment

Congrats, you did it!

You created an assessment and you’re watching the results of that work pay off. Maybe this was your first assessment, or second, or your first time creating a certain type of assessment. Now, you may be asking yourself… What should I do next? Do I create another assessment like this one? Do I try out a different approach? Do I wait?

These are all valid questions and options, and depending on what your goals are, there could be a different answer for everyone. Below, we’ll dive into some of the potential scenarios you may be in, and consider the wide variety of options available to you with Assessment Generator.

I shared my assessment. Now what?

First of all, HOORAY for getting that assessment created and shared! Whether this is your first or 50th assessment, getting questions and content out there always takes guts and time. While we try to make the assessment creation process as streamlined as possible, it still takes effort and strategy to truly make an assessment for the unique business that is yours.

If this is your first assessment, you’ve done the work and now you can look forward to reaping the benefits. What were you hoping to achieve with this assessment? If you hadn’t truly asked yourself that in the beginning, maybe dig a little deeper now. You could also come up with a plan to follow up with respondents who may not have taken the assessment yet in the days to come, to ensure you have a large pool of data (and people to share your expert results and reporting with!)

As time goes on, maybe you’d also like to share your assessments with more people. Assessments can be easily shared via social media, an email signature, in a blog post or newsletter… the opportunities are endless! It’s just up to you to decide on the who, when, and where for your assessment.

My assessment got responses. Now what?

This is the exciting part — your assessment is out there generating responses and results. Depending on how you set up your assessment, respondents may see custom feedback based on their score. Do you want to follow up to see if they have any follow-up questions? This could be a great way to continue a conversation that you started with your assessment.

Do you have an Advanced account? If so, did you know that respondents can automatically be redirected to a page on your site (or even different pages depending upon how they scored)? This option could work for you if you’d like to show respondents just how your product or service would help them through your assessment and feedback… and then redirect them right to a specialized page to learn more and purchase it!

I want to try a new assessment

You’re in luck; Assessment Generator has a wide range of assessment tools and options. From coaching packages to targeted packages based on your field of expertise, there are pre-designed packages available for you to choose from to share your expertise!

If you started off using a Simple Assessment, maybe you’d like to try a Type-Based Assessment. We go into more detail on these here, and both are beneficial based on the type of information you are looking to gather and subsequently share.

Do you feel like a tried and true assessment pro, as far as creating your actual assessments? This could be a great time to try out our many assessment integrations. Whether you’re looking to automatically add respondents’ information to your email list through Zapier, or customize your content by segment, there are hundreds of integrations you can choose from.

Throughout this process, perhaps you’ve realized that next time, you’d like to provide a printable PDF option for your clients to look over versus on-screen feedback, or include more branding on your assessment. That’s great! Each assessment is a learning opportunity, and a chance to learn more about how assessments can work for you and your business. There’s no right or wrong way to use an assessment; there’s only the way that works best for you, and we can’t wait to help you figure out what that is!
