Fonts as a Branding Tool

Fonts as a Branding Tool

Ah, branding.

A topic that continually comes up whenever entrepreneurship and business are involved… but for good reason! Your brand is the backbone of your business, and therefore it is so critical to be conscious and intentional about the style that reinforces it.

One way Assessment Generator is working to make this easier for you is with customized fonts to reinforce your brand through typography. We know you’re focused on the content and words you put out into the world on behalf of your business… so it’s time to make sure that how your content looks is treated with similar importance through font choice.

Based on your feedback, we’ve improved the ability to control and customize the fonts used in your assessments. Now, you can easily customize the font used throughout your assessment and even in your PDF report. Stay in line with your brand book, take your brand integration to the next level, or just have some fun playing around with some new font styles!

We have added a large assortment of font options for you to choose from when creating your assessments. In fact, you can now choose from over 1,000 Google Fonts to use in your assessment, on-screen results, and PDF reports if you have an advanced or higher subscription.

Using fonts to convey brand

Let’s say you have some branding like a logo, and maybe a standard font you use (hello, Arial, I’m looking at you) but are ready to make a statement and stand out. You want your clients and potential clients to see your content and think, “I know who that is!”

Fonts are a great way to be creative and do just that. A font choice, similar to brand colors or imagery, immediately sets the tone and lets people know it’s you — and your unique business — they’re interacting with.

Font choice, whether you’re a team of one or hundreds, is such an important tool for streamlining your brand and content as well. If you have a brand guide or a digital asset management system, knowing which font/s to use — and when — makes everything easier and more cohesive for your company and employees. Having a specific font, or family of fonts, that you use in your business is a simple way to create and maintain a consistent look across your company’s documents and content.

How Fonts Affect Your Assessments

Given the importance of font choice for your business as a whole, the choice of which font to use in your assessment is an important one! You may already be aware you have the capabilities to use your brand’s logo and colors in your assessment.

Now, take your brand integration and professionalism to the next level by using the same font in your assessment that you use across other content. Your font choice is incredibly powerful in reinforcing your brand, providing that brand familiarity to clients, and really just conveying that overall image of YOU!

Fonts are a great way to further brand yourself, your business, and your assessments. A font choice lets you customize the look and feel of your assessment right from the start, setting the tone. Let’s say your company plans weddings, and your logo and materials use a beautiful cursive font. Are you seriously going to link to, or share, an assessment in Times New Roman? What about assessment results? Think about how that might make your customers feel; not only is it jarring, but it reduces your credibility. Branding is so important in that way; consistency equals trust and professionalism in our minds, and brand consistency is key. You want your clients to see an assessment or a PDF report from you and immediately know it’s from you at first glance. That is brand recognition at its finest – and we can help you get there.

Give New Fonts a Try!

We hope you’re as excited as we are about the incredible variety of new fonts available to use in your assessments! Fonts provide an easy way to further incorporate branding and customization into your assessments, on-screen results, and PDF reports. It is our goal to provide you with all of the tools you need to create professional and impeccably on-brand assessments for your business. We can’t wait to hear how these new font options will help to easily give your assessments that extra touch of personality and professionalism!

The ABC’s of Assessments

The ABC’s of Assessments

Assessments are incredibly useful marketing and lead-generation tools for your business, but how are you supposed to use assessments like a pro if you don’t start at the beginning? Below, we’ll take a look at the ABC’s of assessments – think of this post as part user guide and part intro to a new kind of tool that could drastically improve your business in 2022!

So, what exactly is an assessment?

That’s right, we’re starting from the VERY beginning here — what is an assessment? An assessment is basically a super-charged questionnaire. Yes, you select questions to ask respondents, but you are also able to include unique components such as images, audio, or video. You then create a scoring system and decide what feedback will be given to your respondents based on their scores. It’s a one-stop shop for gathering information, sharing results, and providing feedback!

The real ABC’s: Terms you’ll see along the way

The ABC’s of assessments are terms you may come across while creating your assessments. As a bonus, many of these terms are great to know in a general business or marketing context as well; they don’t just apply to assessments!

API– Application Programming Interface. APIs allow computer programs or apps to talk to each other automatically. For example, Assessment Generator allows you to use Zapier to connect your assessment to any of thousands of third-party applications without coding. Or, you can provide your own API endpoint on your website and connect your assessment directly to it without using Zapier.

Binary Question– A binary question offers only two choices that are usually opposites of each other (for example, Yes/No and True/False questions).

CRM– Customer Relationship Management. A central place to collect your customer’s information such as email address, name, phone number, etc. A CRM integration seamlessly connects between your assessment and third-party apps, such as CRM software.

CSV file–  A Comma-separated Values File. CSV files are often opened in a spreadsheet format through Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Your responses to your assessment can be exported as a CSV file to make it easy to sort, analyze, and save your data.

Dynamic content– Content in a document that changes or adapts due to the clients’ needs or a respondent’s answers.

Embed– Display your assessment in a specific place on your website (by “embedding” it there) so your respondents don’t have to leave your website to take the assessment.

Identifier– A tag used to reference the respondent’s answer to a specific question.

Likert Scale– Also known as a sliding scale, this is often used in questionnaires that measure a person’s opinion or perception.

Manual Scoring– You set the point values for your score ranges, such as High, Medium, and Low scoring bands with different ranges for each.

Narrative Question– A question that lets respondents answer by typing free-form text.

Numeric Question– A question that offers the ability to enter a numeric-only answer.

Options Question– A question that offers the ability to choose from multiple answers (aka a multiple-choice question!)

Pages– You can split your assessment up by a certain number of questions per page.

Paywall– A system that prevents Internet users from accessing certain web content without paying for it.

Example report
PDF report– Portable Document Format. A file format designed to present documents consistently across multiple devices and platforms for ease of sharing and printing.

Question Formats– Questions can be posed to respondents in several ways. Assessment Generator offers these choices: Binary, Checkbox, Options, Narrative, Scale, Numeric, Ranking, and Validation.

Ranking Question– A question that offers the ability to arrange the order of the answers presented according to preference.

Scale Question– A question that offers the ability to select an answer on a numeric scale with customized text labels on either end of the scale. (The most commonly used scales are 1-5, 1-7, and 1-10).

Score Bands– A range of scores used to group similar respondents together in assessment results. You can divide up the total number of points in your assessment into any number of score bands (for example, High, Medium, Low) to provide tailored feedback based on score.

Score Interpretation– Tailored feedback to the respondent based on their score. In Assessment Generator, a different interpretation can be defined for each score band.

Score Ranges–  The range of points assigned to each score band. For example: Low=0-33, Medium=34-66, High=67-100.

Sections- Allows you to group questions during the assessment. Each sections of questions is shown on a separate page, and the respondent uses a button to advance to the next section. Unlike Types, sections affect the look of the assessment, and not the scoring.

Simple Assessment– An assessment that offers the ability to provide one overall score for all questions asked.

Types– Also called Areas, Categories, or Styles. Each type receives a separate score.

Type-Based Assessment– A type-based assessment offers the ability to provide a score for each type that is defined.

Validation question– A question that checks or proves the validity of something being asked (like what is your email address?)

Zapier integration– Using the app Zapier to connect another app (like MailChimp, Active Campaign, Kajabi) to your assessment in Assessment Generator.

Whew – what a list! Hopefully you’ve learned a thing or two about assessments and the various tools, tips, or tricks you can utilize.

Choose from Stock Images or Upload Your Own

Assessment Generator offers a wide variety of stock images that you can use immediately – just click and go! Whether a coach or service provider, we have images that can fit with your specific brand and offerings. Better yet, each stock image comes with its own, pre-defined mobile-optimized version as well.

Don’t want to use a stock photo? You also have the option to upload a custom image of your own design. As a bonus, we will automatically generate a mobile-friendly image based on the image you provide – or for the ultimate in customization – you can provide your own mobile version.

Mobile Friendly

Like most products, Assessment Generator’s assessments use a different background image for desktop browsers versus mobile devices. This does two things — first, depending on the image, the layout of the background may need to be different to accommodate the vertical orientation of a phone. Second, using a smaller image for phones saves users’ bandwidth and allows your assessment to load faster via WiFi or cellular data.

Mobile integration is extremely important if someone is taking your assessment on their phone vs a laptop or desktop computer. Having an easy, straightforward, and branded user experience for respondents means they will be more likely to take your assessment, complete it, and be willing to engage with you moving forward. It’s a win-win!

Ready to add even more customization to your assessments? To add a background image, just log into your account, edit your assessment, and click the Style tab. For more information, refer to our user guide.

Choosing the Best Assessment Format for You

Choosing the Best Assessment Format for You

You have a great website. You have some pretty awesome clients. Now, you’re ready to take the next step and utilize assessments to engage those clients – and maybe even bring in some new ones!

So… where do you begin?

Two Ways to Score Your Assessment

Assessment Generator offers two different ways to score your an assessment: Simple and Type-Based. Below, we’ll go into more detail about each one to help you make the most informed choice as to which type of assessment will work best for you!

Simple Assessments

When you need to generate one single, overall score for your assessment, you’ll want to choose a simple assessment.

Don’t be fooled by the name, though – simple assessments have a very straightforward scoring process, but their results still pack a real punch! A simple assessment assigns a score value to each question that you ask. At the end of the assessment, those scores add up to one final, overall score for the assessment.

When displaying your respondents’ assessment results, you can show scores as point values, or as a percentage of the total possible score.

Simple assessments are a great way to provide automatic feedback based on scores. Depending on a respondent’s score, you can tailor your messaging and products to where they’re at now. Do you want to recommend certain products or services based on their score? Share some content that would resonate with them? You now have some solid data – that they provided! – to back that up.

You can also set up as many different score bands as you’d like! For example, there could be “high”, “medium”, and “low” result bands, allowing you to provide different score interpretations for those whose scores fall into the range of each band.

There is also the opportunity to display results in a gauge chart, like the one below:

Gauge Chart

Simple assessments are a great tool for managing various numerical scores – and what those scores mean for you and your respondents. Not so simple after all!

Type-Based Assessments

A type-based assessment allows you to give your respondents multiple scores for a single assessment. This allows you to ask questions and gather information across various categories.

So, how does it work?

First, you create different categories in your assessment, and the score for each question is assigned to one of those categories. After answering all of the assessment questions, respondents will receive a separate score for each category. You can also decide to share an overall score for the assessment.

There are two ways to score your type-based assessment:

1. Identify the highest (or lowest) scoring category, and present content for that category. This helps to illustrate an area where the respondent may need help… and how you can help them!

2. Show interpretation of the respondent’s score in every category. With this approach, you can define scoring bands within each category. This allows you to tell your respondent that they scored high in category A, low in category B, etc. You can provide different feedback and offerings for different bands or categories.

When displaying results, these assessments give you more visually compelling options to show scores, like point values or percentages. With a type-based assessment, you can opt to use one of these chart styles:

Taking the Next Steps

Once you provide your respondents with their score and interpretation, it’s a great idea to show them how they can take their next steps with you! You’ve read some tips throughout on how to do that, but truly we want you to feel comfortable with customizing your assessment so it can best fit you – and your customers’ – needs.

You can learn more about Assessment Generator’s unique chart options here.

If you’ve already created an assessment and realize you want to change it to either type-based or simple, we can do that for you. Contact us and we’ll get it sorted out!
