Choosing the Best Assessment Format for You

Choosing the Best Assessment Format for You

You have a great website. You have some pretty awesome clients. Now, you’re ready to take the next step and utilize assessments to engage those clients – and maybe even bring in some new ones!

So… where do you begin?

Two Ways to Score Your Assessment

Assessment Generator offers two different ways to score your an assessment: Simple and Type-Based. Below, we’ll go into more detail about each one to help you make the most informed choice as to which type of assessment will work best for you!

Simple Assessments

When you need to generate one single, overall score for your assessment, you’ll want to choose a simple assessment.

Don’t be fooled by the name, though – simple assessments have a very straightforward scoring process, but their results still pack a real punch! A simple assessment assigns a score value to each question that you ask. At the end of the assessment, those scores add up to one final, overall score for the assessment.

When displaying your respondents’ assessment results, you can show scores as point values, or as a percentage of the total possible score.

Simple assessments are a great way to provide automatic feedback based on scores. Depending on a respondent’s score, you can tailor your messaging and products to where they’re at now. Do you want to recommend certain products or services based on their score? Share some content that would resonate with them? You now have some solid data – that they provided! – to back that up.

You can also set up as many different score bands as you’d like! For example, there could be “high”, “medium”, and “low” result bands, allowing you to provide different score interpretations for those whose scores fall into the range of each band.

There is also the opportunity to display results in a gauge chart, like the one below:

Simple assessments are a great tool for managing various numerical scores – and what those scores mean for you and your respondents. Not so simple after all!

Type-Based Assessments

A type-based assessment allows you to give your respondents multiple scores for a single assessment. This allows you to ask questions and gather information across various categories.

So, how does it work?

First, you create different categories in your assessment, and the score for each question is assigned to one of those categories. After answering all of the assessment questions, respondents will receive a separate score for each category. You can also decide to share an overall score for the assessment.

There are two ways to score your type-based assessment:

1. Identify the highest (or lowest) scoring category, and present content for that category. This helps to illustrate an area where the respondent may need help… and how you can help them!

2. Show interpretation of the respondent’s score in every category. With this approach, you can define scoring bands within each category. This allows you to tell your respondent that they scored high in category A, low in category B, etc. You can provide different feedback and offerings for different bands or categories.

When displaying results, these assessments give you more visually compelling options to show scores, like point values or percentages. With a type-based assessment, you can opt to use one of these chart styles:

Taking the Next Steps

Once you provide your respondents with their score and interpretation, it’s a great idea to show them how they can take their next steps with you! You’ve read some tips throughout on how to do that, but truly we want you to feel comfortable with customizing your assessment so it can best fit you – and your customers’ – needs.

How to Share Assessments for Maximum Brand Impact

How to Share Assessments for Maximum Brand Impact

It’s no secret that assessments are a great way to engage with your audience and share your expertise.

So – what are the next steps once you’ve created a stellar assessment, and are ready to share it with current or prospective customers?

With Assessment Generator, we’ve made the process easy and seamless:

You’ll receive a unique URL (where ‘0000’ is the unique identifier for your assessment):

https://app.assessmentgenerator.com/assessment/0000

This works well in most situations – you can link to the assessment from your website, post it to social media, or send it via email. This is a great option if you’re trying to engage your current email list in a new way, or reach a wider audience on social media.

What if you want to limit the distribution of your assessment?

You may not want everyone to have access to an assessment. This could be for any number of reasons, including:

  • Your assessment is only to be used internally by existing clients
  • It’s only available if the respondent has paid a fee first
  • It contains some intellectual property you don’t want widely distributed
  • You want your assessment URL to reflect your brand

Whether it’s to emphasize your brand, keep visitors on your website, or protect your intellectual property, we’ve got you covered!

Assessment Generator offers 3 distinct approaches that allow you to hide, encrypt or change your assessment URL:

Embed your assessment in an iframe

An iframe allows you to embed your assessment within your website, so your visitors can take the assessment without leaving your site. Choose where on your site you’d like to showcase your assessment – whether that’s a dedicated page that also includes your site’s menu items, or alongside other brand elements you’d like clients to see and potentially engage with.

This capability is available with all of our subscription plans. Check out Sharing Your Assessment in our User Guide for details.

Encrypt your assessment URL

This approach modifies your URL so that the exact format is hidden from respondents when shared. In addition, once someone opens your assessment, the URL shown in the browser address bar instantly changes to an address that cannot be used or copied. Meanwhile, the respondent can still complete the assessment normally. This is a great option for paid assessments and really gives them an exclusive, made-for-you feel.

This feature is available for Advanced and higher subscriptions. You can also sign up for a 2-week free trial of our software, which allows you to test out our Advanced-level features!

Use a custom subdomain

With Private Label subscriptions, you can set up a custom subdomain on your website for your assessment. Creating a custom subdomain is an effective way to designate a custom URL for your assessment.

This capability offers an additional level of professionalism and integration for your assessments; it truly helps them appear to be a seamless extension of your brand (which they are!) For example, your assessment URL could look like: https://assessment.YourCompany.com

How Entrepreneurs Can Use Assessments To Manage Growth

How Entrepreneurs Can Use Assessments To Manage Growth

The word “assessment” can mean different things and conjure up different thoughts with every person.

I’m no psychologist, but I’m willing to say it may go back to grade school and the dreaded test day. No matter how much we were sure that we did our best on a test, we could’ve missed something and we might receive a disappointing grade.

It can be the same in business – if you keep doing the same things that you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get the same results. It’s easy to continue coasting along with that cozy illusion that we’re exactly where we think we are and need to be.

However, when it comes to our business, this tack of ‘looking in the mirror’ is counter to what we should be doing.

The reality is that when it comes to our business, tracking business performance is essential at any stage. As a company owner or an entrepreneur, you need to be aware of your business’s strengths and weaknesses.

As an analytical tool that provides a clear picture of your business—where it stands, where it is going—and the factors affecting your growth, a periodic assessment is essential to achieving your goals.

So, while many entrepreneurs think that assessments are simply used to point out the status of their business, client, or customer, a successful entrepreneur will use assessments to see opportunities for growth.

How to Conduct Business Assessments

Every business assessment should consider 4 factors.

  • Strengths
  • Weaknesses
  • Opportunities
  • Threats

Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats, or SWOT are the key ingredients that business owners should consider when analyzing the competition and planning effective strategies for the future. A SWOT analysis should be applied to the several departments integral to a company’s success.

We offer a set of pre-written Business and Entrepreneurship assessments that will help you understand where your business is today and identify areas that need improvement. The best part is that these assessments have already been written and are ready to go today!

An assessment is more than just taking the temperature of your business; rather, an effective assessment will help guide you toward the optimal track for growth. An effective assessment will enable you to translate your vision for your business into reality. Taking the same assessment every three to four months will show the gains you’ve made in striving for enhancing your business.

How To Generate Success Metrics Using Assessment Generator

How To Generate Success Metrics Using Assessment Generator

You already understand the benefits of engagement marketing, and how assessments are a great way to establish a relationship with potential clients and help them get to know you. But did you know know that assessments can also be used within your coaching practice when you’re actively working with a client? In today’s world, a positive return on investment is very important to the client, and gathering success metrics is the first step in that process.

Are You Adding Value to Your Customer’s Life?

Measuring and reporting success metrics offers a number of benefits, both for you and for your clients. Providing your clients with a report showing how your program has helped them improve has the effect of re-enforcing the lessons from your program, and acts as a confidence booster, increasing their ability to apply the lessons learned to their daily lives.

You can offer assessments to measure progress either during or after the coaching program. Assessing progress during your program can help you and your client better understand areas where they’ve made the most progress, and areas that still need work. Assessment Generator’s Type-based assessments allow you to design surveys that provide scoring and feedback in specific areas – perfect for this application.

You can also offer the same assessment before and after completion of your coaching program in order to assess overall progress. You can use Assessment Generator’s group tagging feature to track a respondent’s scores on an assessment taken multiple times during your program.

Giving a client a tangible result showing improvement also makes it more likely that they will spread the word to others about the effectiveness of your program.

Providing Success Metrics Helps you to Improve your Practice

When you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot measure it, when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and unsatisfactory kind.

As you continue to gather success metrics on your clients over time, you’ll gain critical understanding of your own success as a coach – after all, your goal is to help people improve themselves. And the better you can meet that goal, the more successful your practice will become.

Gathering success metrics also gives you a powerful marketing and conversion tool. Referring to hard numbers in your marketing efforts takes your credibility to the next level and gives potential clients confidence that your program can help them.

    Validation Is Here

    Validation Is Here

When you want to provide a little extra formatting guidance in your assessment, validation text entry questions might be the solution you’re looking for.

    Validate data

    Validate Your Respondent’s Answers

Using Validated Text Entry Questions, you can take an extra step to ensure that your respondents format their answers correctly.

Ask your respondents for an email address, date, or URL, and their answer will be confirmed to be in the correct format.

Please note that our software is not able to verify that the email address, date, or URL entered is accurate, only that its format is consistent with acceptable standards for those data types.

Results are largely consistent across browsers Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, IOS, and Safari for email and URL validation though the user experience does vary slightly depending on the platform.

Date validation is unfortunately not currently available on Safari, so for now we recommend using any of the other browsers for this purpose.

Please check out Adding Validated Text Entry Questions in our User Guide for details.
