Using Online Assessments to Screen Clients

Using Online Assessments to Screen Clients

We’ve all been there: you start working with a new client, and you realize a little too late they may not be the best fit. It’s no one’s fault, but it can lead to some unnecessary stress down the line. What if you could avoid this stress, figure out which clients are ideal for your business, and gently steer away those that aren’t? Online assessments can help you do just that!

Assessments as a screening tool

An assessment can be a wonderful tool to help you screen for clients who either are or aren’t a great fit for your services. One way to do this is by offering a pre-assessment to your new clients. This will allow you to screen clients by carefully curating the questions and content of your assessment. You can ask about specifics related to working style, anticipated needs, etc, and really get a feel for how the working relationship will be between you and this person. Does it seem like a good fit? Great! Not so much? At least you know before you’ve started a relationship that it’s not the best fit for either of you.

Using Online Assessments to Screen Clients

An assessment tailored to your ideal client

As life coach, business coach or consultant, you probably have an idea of who your ideal clients are. In creating your assessment, map out how the replies to your questions would be answered by those ideal clients. These are the people you’d be thrilled to work with! Everyone screens prospective clients – whether by phone, email, or in person. Speed up the process and save yourself future headaches by screening via assessment early on.

How would I implement this?

Great question! Once you have your ideal client in mind, and their ideal assessment-taking profile, simply ask all new clients to take a pre-screen assessment before bringing them on. Ask questions that reflect things you feel are important as a business owner and person so you can start to gauge work ethic, communication style, and commitment level. If there is a certain level of knowledge in an area that you’d like all clients to have before working with you, this is a perfect opportunity to find out where people stand. Don’t be afraid to get creative and specific with your questions – this will ultimately benefit all parties involved in the long run.

So there you have it… a simple, automated way to screen clients before you even have your first call with them. Assessment Generator lets you streamline and personalize the process while safeguarding yourself and your business from potential time wasted down the line. Sharing Assessments for Increased Engagement

Sharing Assessments for Increased Engagement

You’ve created an assessment – great! Now, what are your options for getting it out into the world? Assessments are a wonderful engagement marketing tool to really draw in those ideal clients, but first, they have to be able to find you!

Luckily for you, Assessment Generator provides a wide variety of options for sharing your assessment and getting it in front of the people you want to see it. Below, we’ll take an in-depth look at three of the main ways you can do this. Get ready to let your assessments start doing some of the work for you!

Link Directly to your Assessment

Are you looking for a simple way to get your assessments in front of clients (and potential clients) with just a click? Linking directly to your unique assessment URL is a great place to start. Using a direct link to your assessment means you can integrate it into your existing content, like your website, emails, social media posts, or newsletters. Do you share regular blog posts, and want to gain some information on those reading them? Link to an assessment within the post! Do you want people visiting your landing page to share information with you, while also gaining some value (and insight into your services!) from their tailored assessment results? You know what to do!

As a bonus, you never have to worry about how your assessment will look after being accessed through this direct link; all of our assessments are mobile-friendly and optimized for the many ways you may want to share them.

Easily Embed your Assessment

What if you don’t want users to leave your site to take an assessment? Embedding your assessment in an Iframe is another option available to you. This basically means your assessment will seamlessly appear on your website, almost as though you coded it in there yourself! (Don’t worry — the process to do this is as simple as copying a snippet of code we have ready for you, and pasting it onto your site!) Embedded assessments provide that extra bit of a safeguard to keeping potential clients on your site… and in tune with you and your services. With this option, they’re more likely to browse your offerings, engage with your site longer, and maybe even become your next ideal client!

Get Poppin’ with your Assessment

Have you ever been on a website and a pop-up came up, offering you something? Sure, when this is for a paid offering it’s easy to say “I don’t know if I want to invest in that yet!” What if it was something that could bring you value, though? That’s exactly what you’re offering with a pop-up assessment. Similar to embedding an assessment, setting up a pop-up assessment involves copying and pasting a small snippet of code into your website, and then you’re all set. If a potential client is on the fence but still spending time on your site, why not try to more directly engage them and help them decide to work with you?

As you can see, there are a wide variety of ways you can share your assessments, and you don’t need to decide on just one. Whether you’re trying to send out an assessment out to current clients via your email list, easily embed an assessment for a scrolling potential client, or catch someone before they leave your website for good, Assessment Generator has you covered.

The ABC’s of Assessments

The ABC’s of Assessments

Assessments are incredibly useful marketing and lead-generation tools for your business, but how are you supposed to use assessments like a pro if you don’t start at the beginning? Below, we’ll take a look at the ABC’s of assessments – think of this post as part user guide and part intro to a new kind of tool that could drastically improve your business in 2022!

So, what exactly is an assessment?

That’s right, we’re starting from the VERY beginning here — what is an assessment? An assessment is basically a super-charged questionnaire. Yes, you select questions to ask respondents, but you are also able to include unique components such as images, audio, or video. You then create a scoring system and decide what feedback will be given to your respondents based on their scores. It’s a one-stop shop for gathering information, sharing results, and providing feedback!

The real ABC’s: Terms you’ll see along the way

The ABC’s of assessments are terms you may come across while creating your assessments. As a bonus, many of these terms are great to know in a general business or marketing context as well; they don’t just apply to assessments!

API– Application Programming Interface. APIs allow computer programs or apps to talk to each other automatically. For example, Assessment Generator allows you to use Zapier to connect your assessment to any of thousands of third-party applications without coding. Or, you can provide your own API endpoint on your website and connect your assessment directly to it without using Zapier.

Binary Question– A binary question offers only two choices that are usually opposites of each other (for example, Yes/No and True/False questions).

CRM– Customer Relationship Management. A central place to collect your customer’s information such as email address, name, phone number, etc. A CRM integration seamlessly connects between your assessment and third-party apps, such as CRM software.

CSV file–  A Comma-separated Values File. CSV files are often opened in a spreadsheet format through Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Your responses to your assessment can be exported as a CSV file to make it easy to sort, analyze, and save your data.

Dynamic content– Content in a document that changes or adapts due to the clients’ needs or a respondent’s answers.

Embed– Display your assessment in a specific place on your website (by “embedding” it there) so your respondents don’t have to leave your website to take the assessment.

Identifier– A tag used to reference the respondent’s answer to a specific question.

Likert Scale– Also known as a sliding scale, this is often used in questionnaires that measure a person’s opinion or perception.

Manual Scoring– You set the point values for your score ranges, such as High, Medium, and Low scoring bands with different ranges for each.

Narrative Question– A question that lets respondents answer by typing free-form text.

Numeric Question– A question that offers the ability to enter a numeric-only answer.

Options Question– A question that offers the ability to choose from multiple answers (aka a multiple-choice question!)

Pages– You can split your assessment up by a certain number of questions per page.

Paywall– A system that prevents Internet users from accessing certain web content without paying for it.

Example report
PDF report– Portable Document Format. A file format designed to present documents consistently across multiple devices and platforms for ease of sharing and printing.

Question Formats– Questions can be posed to respondents in several ways. Assessment Generator offers these choices: Binary, Checkbox, Options, Narrative, Scale, Numeric, Ranking, and Validation.

Ranking Question– A question that offers the ability to arrange the order of the answers presented according to preference.

Scale Question– A question that offers the ability to select an answer on a numeric scale with customized text labels on either end of the scale. (The most commonly used scales are 1-5, 1-7, and 1-10).

Score Bands– A range of scores used to group similar respondents together in assessment results. You can divide up the total number of points in your assessment into any number of score bands (for example, High, Medium, Low) to provide tailored feedback based on score.

Score Interpretation– Tailored feedback to the respondent based on their score. In Assessment Generator, a different interpretation can be defined for each score band.

Score Ranges–  The range of points assigned to each score band. For example: Low=0-33, Medium=34-66, High=67-100.

Sections- Allows you to group questions during the assessment. Each sections of questions is shown on a separate page, and the respondent uses a button to advance to the next section. Unlike Types, sections affect the look of the assessment, and not the scoring.

Simple Assessment– An assessment that offers the ability to provide one overall score for all questions asked.

Types– Also called Areas, Categories, or Styles. Each type receives a separate score.

Type-Based Assessment– A type-based assessment offers the ability to provide a score for each type that is defined.

Validation question– A question that checks or proves the validity of something being asked (like what is your email address?)

Zapier integration– Using the app Zapier to connect another app (like MailChimp, Active Campaign, Kajabi) to your assessment in Assessment Generator.

Whew – what a list! Hopefully you’ve learned a thing or two about assessments and the various tools, tips, or tricks you can utilize.

Assessments Provide Instant Results

Assessments Provide Instant Results

Do you wish there was a way to receive information from clients and use it to provide them with instant results? Assessments from Assessment Generator are specifically designed to do just that!

Whether you are looking for new clients and want to give them a taste of your offerings, or you’re hoping to learn more about existing clients through your assessments, you can be confident that the information you gather, and recommendations you share, will simplify your life and save you valuable time in your business.

How do assessments provide instant results?

Assessments provide immediate interactivity between you and the respondent, not only gathering valuable information from them but allowing you to provide recommendations. At the end of your assessment, you can provide instantaneous feedback based on the respondent’s score with links and other information so they can contact you to learn more.

Another great benefit to this tool is that you set up an assessment once, and can use it for multiple new or current clients. Instead of time-consuming calls or one-on-one’s, you are creating something that allows you to reach multiple people in a similarly tailored way. (And don’t worry – you can still do those other things too! But just think how nice it would be to have that first step ready to go for anyone visiting your site!) By providing an assessment for them to take, you avoid the trap of asking for an email and not knowing much else about your potential client.

Why do instant results matter?

It’s no secret that we live in a time where instant gratification is sought after and expected, especially with online interactions. Taking that to a business situation, when a potential client reaches your website or landing page, they are searching for help with a problem or answers to a question. Sure, you could tell them through bulleted lists on your site how you can help them… but if you’re using an assessment you can actually show them in real-time! With an assessment, you get to gather information that will help you serve that client down the line, and also provide them with results at the end of their assessment.

These instant results are part of an incredible strategy that will set you apart from the competition, and increase your conversion rate. Potential clients will feel immediately seen and heard, and get a taste of your services and expertise. You then have something to go off of when following up – if you even have to – (that’s right, assessments can be so successful that potential clients reach out to YOU after!)

Assessments are an incredible marketing and retention tool, and a great investment for furthering your business. Check out ways you can provide that instant gratification and grow your client list by testing out Assessment Generator here!

Adding Videos to Assessments

Adding Videos to Assessments

If you’re looking to dramatically increase engagement and conversions, adding videos to your assessments could be just the thing. A video can be a great way to share instructions or information, and it adds a personal touch to your messaging.

In addition to their more personal feel, videos also get results:

a 30-33% conversion rate increase, to be exact!

Higher conversion rates, greater engagement, easy searchability for SEO… what’s not to love?!

Where to use videos in assessments

With Assessment Generator, the ability to add videos to your assessments is simple and straightforward. Great… but where can you use a video within an assessment?

Common places to use videos are in the assessment instructions and on the results page in your respondent’s browser window.

It’s helpful to think of potential areas a respondent might feel stuck or have questions along the way — that’s where you can jump in (via video!) and uniquely welcome them, help them out, etc.

You can also include videos in your assessment questions!

How to add videos into your assessments

All right, we’ve convinced you! But not so fast. Before adding a video to your assessment, first, make sure the video file is ready to go. That can be quickly done by uploading it to YouTube or Vimeo. If you’re going the YouTube route, simply copy the EMBED code to a notepad document. Click here for YouTube instructions on how to do this.

Once your videos are uploaded and ready to add, choose the area where you want to put your video. Assessment Generator allows you to insert videos into any editor window as you are creating your assessment. This provides great flexibility as you are building your assessment, and allows you to use one or multiple videos throughout.

Helpful video formatting tips

Now that you’re ready to include your video make sure to paste the URL into the pop-up URL window. We’ve found it helpful to make some quick formatting changes to your video once it’s uploaded. For example, we recommend using 560 for the width and 315 for the height. (Don’t worry, we’ll automatically adjust things behind the scenes to make sure your video works appropriately on smaller screens!)  Make sure to click “ok” and “save” along the way!

Our user guide has more detailed instructions on adding videos.

Select “Test Assessment” from the Actions drop-down menu once you’re ready to try out your newly incorporated video.

You’ve done it – your video and assessment are ready to go! In addition to your fantastic new assessment, you also have incorporated an interactive piece of content to truly draw in your current and prospective clients in a personal way.

Now sit back, relax, and enjoy those conversions.
